Trip to Vienna – Malo
We visited the Austrian capital from April 17th to April 20th. Compared to Hungary, Vienna felt much more like Western Europe. One of the first things we appreciated was being able to use the Euro instead of the Hungarian Forint during our stay, which made things a bit more convenient for us.
On our first evening, we went to a restaurant called Kaffee Alt Wien. It was a fascinating blend of a traditional coffee house, a bar, and a restaurant. This establishment has been around for over a century, having opened its doors in 1922. The atmosphere was both cozy and historic. I had the chance to try the local specialty Wiener Schnitzel a thin, breaded veal cutlet that is a true culinary symbol of Vienna. After dinner, we took a nighttime stroll through the city center. One thing that immediately stood out to us was the sheer number of statues decorating the façades of the buildings. It gave the whole area a very grand and artistic feel.
The next day, we were met with rainy weather. To make the most of it, we decided to visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History). We started with the Ancient Egypt exhibit, which included numerous sarcophagi, mummified bodies, and tools from thousands of years ago. It was fascinating to see how well preserved many of the artifacts were. Afterward, we explored the Ancient Greece section. There were many busts and statues of historical figures, as well as beautiful representations of the gods and mythological scenes. We ended our museum tour with an exhibit on the history of Vienna and its artistic contributions. Viennese artisans, especially in jewelry-making, bookbinding, and ceramics, were highly regarded. Their work was often both functional and artistic. I was especially impressed by the intricate clocks and antique calculation tools, which were not only practical but also visually stunning.
On Saturday, we enjoyed perfect weather and wandered the streets under the sun. Vienna blends classical architecture and modern urban life beautifully. From imperial-era buildings to peaceful parks and the vibrant banks of the Danube where we relaxed on a terrace and admired colorful street art it was all incredibly charming.
This was an unforgettable experience. I would highly recommend anyone to visit this welcoming and captivating city.
