Discovering the Hungarian Parliament Building by Aubin
During our trip to Budapest, my parents and I visited one of the city’s most iconic landmarks: the Hungarian Parliament Building. It was a guided visit with an audio guide, and I must say, it was both informative and impressive. The building itself is stunning, both outside and inside.
Located by the Danube River, the Parliament Building is one of the largest in Europe. From the outside, its neo-Gothic style catches your attention immediately. The pointed towers, arches, and statues make it look like a castle from a fairytale. It’s even more beautiful when reflected in the river. We took a lot of photos before entering.
Inside, the experience was even better. The audio guide helped us understand the history and importance of each part of the building. We started in the grand staircase hall, with red carpets and golden decorations. The architecture is full of small details, and everything looks carefully designed to impress visitors.
One of the highlights of the visit was the Dome Hall, where the Hungarian Crown Jewels are kept. Seeing the Holy Crown up close was a powerful moment , it has been used to crown Hungarian kings for centuries. The room is quiet and heavily guarded, which makes the experience feel even more special.
We also visited the chamber where the National Assembly meets. It was empty at the time, so we could sit and listen to the audio guide explaining how Hungarian democracy works. The hall is elegant, with wooden furniture and beautiful stained glass windows. Even though I’m not very familiar with politics, I found it interesting to learn how laws are made in Hungary.
The whole tour lasted about 45 minutes, which was perfect, not too long, not too short. It was well organized, and the explanations were clear. We left the Parliament with a much better understanding of Hungarian history and government.
Visiting the Hungarian Parliament was definitely one of the best parts of our stay in Budapest. It’s a must-see for anyone coming to the city, whether you love history, architecture, or just want to admire something truly majestic.
